Jericho deserves honest and trustworthy Board of Education trustees. Lying to paint yourself as a victim and further your own cause should be grounds for removal from the board. We need trustees who are honest and have integrity, not liars with a self-serving agenda.
At the April 2024 Board of Education meeting Jericho School Board Trustee, Sam Perlman made a pretty concerning allegation about being surreptitiously recorded by a school district administrator. He was so concerned that he had his public statement submitted and printed in the editorial section of a local newspaper. At the meeting the School Board lawyer said that he would look into the matter and that the allegations needed to be investigated.
The reported incident was cleared up by the superintendent at the April meeting. Mr. Grishman began his remarks by mentioning that this incident should have been brought up and discussed in the executive session since, as Sam indicated, it concerned a district employee. Because Sam’s accusations were made in public, the superintendent felt it needed to be cleared up publicly, as well.
It seems that Sam’s description of what took place is not entirely or even partly accurate.
It was made clear that not only was it not a district administrator, as Mr. Perlman alleged, but that Sam verbally acknowledged, in a video, that he was being recorded. So, he knew he was being recorded and it wasn’t surreptitious, at all. There were no students involved in the conversation he was having while he was being recorded, as he alleged. The conversation was with an adult who was identified as a campaigner for George Santos.
If the facts about the incident are true, it seems like Sam Perlman may have made up this story to make himself out as a victim. How ironic since he seems to care very little about the victims of his abusive behaviors during and outside of Board of Ed meetings. Jericho residents can and should do better when electing trustees for our Board of Education. We need trustworthy board trustees, not dishonest bullies.
