What Did They Say…

It takes a serious commitment to academics and learning to become one of, if not THE top school district in the nation. There are certain Board of Education trustees who seem to think that school staff has tons of time to focus on things other than keeping our school #1 in New York.

When a person in authority says something, it should be truthful. A current board member has tried to portray a narrative that what is being taught to our children is nefarious, secretive, and divisive.

Continually trying to divide our community by casting out wild accusations, this trustee harms the reputation and trust in our community. Because we pay attention, we know their accusations are not true.

During Board of Ed meetings we have not heard ONE parent or student complaint brought up or the description of any type of lesson geared toward what this trustee is promoting as fact. But, how does a person with kids in the district even try and make it seem like their statements have even a thread of truth? Do they even speak with their kids about what they are doing in school? Don’t they have the same access as all parents to all homework and class assignments that are posted online? Do they even look at their kids work? Wouldn’t there be a community uproar if such things were actually happening in our kids classes?

This trustee has touted themselves as being all about transparency and rights. We have listened to several meetings where board policy on instructional materials have been discussed and what is clear is their agenda to have full control over removal of certain materials from the curriculum.

If you listen carefully you might even hear that they’d like certain types of people erased from the curriculum.

From the beginning of their term as trustee, this board member has tried to dismantle any and all programs that seek equity or promote diversity in our school programs. Painting a narrative that a certain agenda is being promoted in our schools. We know this is not true. Not one complaint or public comment has been made to support this trustee’s wild claims.

So, who is really trying their best to divide our community? Should teaching children about privilege and balancing what they hear and see in the news and on social media be something schools should shy away from addressing? Does anyone really believe that the teachers are telling the white kids that they are racist?

If you listen carefully you can hear their agenda loud and clear. Is this really what Jericho needs or wants as a trustee? Does anyone really believe that with such high accolades and results there is time to focus on anything other than rigorous academic curriculum? Jericho is a place where everyone feels welcome and accepted. We need to make sure it stays that way.
