When John Sarraf ran for the Jericho Board of Education last year, according to what we’ve been told, he didn’t even want to be interviewed by the teacher’s union for an endorsement. He made very public comments about how independent he was by not accepting any endorsements. Not quite the truth…
What he omitted to tell us was that while he had no interest in seeking an endorsement from the teachers, he was willing to ask (and receive) endorsements from two groups associated with national groups that promote racism and antisemitism. He accepted endorsements from both the Long Island Loud Majority and the 1776 Project.
For someone who ran on a platform of leaving political ideology out of public education it is ironic that he chose to accept endorsement from two extremely politically focused groups. Is this really what Jericho needs on its Board? Someone who doesn’t trust the teachers, but trusts the hate groups? Someone who lied about being independent and not accepting any endorsements? Will these groups expect something for their endorsement?
