Let’s Not Have Politics Here…

A board trustee endorses a political candidate while speaking from the board table during a meeting.

It’s interesting that we spent months listening to complaints about using the district as a backdrop for political events and how “Trustees should not bring politics into our schools”, even as there was a clear endorsement from the Board table for a particular political candidate named George…

One board trustee does seem to always find a way to insert her political ideologies and candidate endorsements into school board meetings and social media posts as a board trustee.

Jen Vartanov really should re-evaluate her position or maybe change her attitude. She constantly brings politics to the Board of Education meetings and directly into her campaign and public posts. Does she really think this community doesn’t see her political viewpoints and campaigning embedded in her board table comments? We are not ignorant people who can be fooled by her lackluster acting and feigning a non-political agenda.

Just look at the major conflict she has raised by attacking programs and curriculum that supports tolerance and equity for all students. She came out attacking at one of her first public board meetings. Never mind that she didn’t attend a Board of Education meeting until she was elected to the board.

Her unwavering support of ousted congressman George Santos is a clear indication of just how embedded her politics are in everything she does. This was lately reported in another blog (the Handbasket), giving her the opportunity to distance herself from Santos. She chose to stay loyal to the fold.

And then there was her support of the hate-group endorsed Board of Education candidate who ran and lost for the last two years.

So where does she stand now? Are her claims of not bringing politics into schools just words or does she practice what she is preaching? If accepting and posting public endorsements from politicians isn’t bringing politics into our schools, what is? Perhaps she’ll be endorsed by “Mom’s for Liberty” or “LI Loud Majority” like her friends above…

If you are going to speak from the board table and post on your public sites about keeping politics out of the schools, then you should really think about how your actions are speaking so much louder than your words. Jericho deserves Board of Education trustees who speak the truth and whose actions support what they say. Do we really need people who are in it for a photo op and maybe just to promote their own political ambitions?
